Eligibility and admission

Frontier Medicine Society reviews applications for a relevant connection to frontier medicine, science, technology or education and alignment with its educational and scientific mission. Professionals across disciplines are welcome. Applying does not itself establish active membership.

Categories and dues

Founding Membership costs $250 per year. Professional Membership costs $150 per year. Industry Membership costs $1,000 per year and includes three named Professional memberships. Relevant undergraduate, graduate and PhD students, residents, clinical fellows and postdoctoral researchers may qualify for free Member-in-Training status.

Military & First Responder Membership is free for currently serving military personnel, including active duty, Reserve and National Guard, and current first responders, including emergency medical services, fire and law enforcement personnel in paid or volunteer roles. It includes Professional Member participation benefits. Former service or retired status alone does not qualify. Founding membership remains a separate, optional $250 annual category.

Activation and renewal

Accepted paid applicants receive payment instructions. Paid membership begins after acceptance and verified successful payment and lasts 12 months from activation. Renewal is manual; there are no automatic charges. Accepted trainees and eligible military and first responder applicants activate without payment and confirm eligibility annually. Free membership does not automatically convert to paid membership. When eligibility ends, members may apply for another category; no charge is made without their choice. Named Industry representatives must meet individual eligibility; approved replacements do not extend the organization’s term.

Founding recognition

Founding membership is available until the inaugural Society meeting in 2027. Date to be announced. Applicants accepted into the Founding category receive lasting historical recognition, which remains after a lapse or a change of membership category. Alongside Professional Member benefits, the Society plans dedicated scientific conversations for the founding cohort and advance invitations to selected Society gatherings as programs develop. The initial delivery plan includes at least one founding-cohort discussion during each member’s first 12-month term. Dates will be announced as organized. Participation in founding programs requires an active Founding membership. Public recognition is optional and confirmed separately.

Participation and independence

Members may share expertise, educational priorities and program feedback and receive participation opportunities as the Society develops. The journal and educational programs remain in development. Membership does not guarantee an appointment, publication, admission to every event, professional certification or continuing-education credit. It conveys no ownership, statutory membership, voting, governance or editorial rights. Industry recognition does not imply product endorsement or provide access to private member information. Public educational work remains accessible under the Society’s approved program plan.

Refunds

Request a full dues refund within 14 days after activation at info@frontiermed.org. Duplicate charges and payments from applicants who are not accepted will be refunded to the original payment method. After 14 days, contact the Society for review of exceptional circumstances; no automatic prorated refund is promised. Applicable statutory rights are unaffected.

Dues and donations

Voluntary gifts are separate from dues and do not purchase membership. Dues are not represented as pure charitable gifts. The Society’s application for recognition of federal tax exemption under section 501(c)(3) is pending with the IRS. Tax deductibility is not assured.
